Will Stop Headaches Ann Landers   

A neurologist specializing in headache treatments responded to an Ann Landers' column in which it was suggested that a banana peel across the forehead and across the back of the neck would help relieve headaches, perhaps because of the potassium in the peel. 

The doctor stated, "Headache is not always a minor disorder that responds easily to such simple cures.  Each month in the United States, approximately 3 million days are spent in bed by headache sufferers.  Many of these people are in excruciating pain, unable to tolerate even the light from a bedside lamp or the sound of a child's step.  Some vomit repeatedly.  For them, trying to cure a headache with banana peels is like trying to irrigate the Sahara by spitting." 

I have measured the electrical resistance at the site of pain in more than 18,000 patients and categorically state my belief that pain is caused by the breaking, cutting, failure, or suppression of electrical signals between cells in living tissue.  With headaches this often occurs across the forehead and across the back of the neck. 

When I read the column, I couldn't run fast enough to get a banana to find out how well the peel would conduct an electrical signal.  Just as I thought, banana peels are excellent conductors.

Hello my name is Naomi Leon. I reside in Chicago IL. I have a daughter, she is 12 years old. About four years ago she started with severe pain in her knees there was tenderness and swelling with it. The pain progressed to her ankles, her wrist, her elbows and shoulders. We have been to many different specialists.  They say it is not arthritis. They have tested her for every sickness and illness known to man kind. Her pain in her legs and hand have all left her because of Physical Therapy, but now her pain is all up and down her spine. She has been on pain medications for four years now. I took her out to the Mayo Clinic, they ran every test they could think of, and they found nothing. They said that she has chronic pain but they do not know what causes chronic pain. I took her out in August of 2007. She has had this pain in her spine ever since.  It eases up but does not actually go away. She has lived this way for a little over a year now and takes pain medication up to three times every day. I looked up what is chronic pain and I came across your book Pain Free for Life.  If you have any suggestions or someone you can refer me to it would be greatly appreciated . Dear Mr. Stoddard,
             I just wanted to take this time to thank you for your advice. When you responded to my e-mail I have to say it touched my heart to hear that you would come to Chicago and treat her yourself. By the way her name is Joceline. You can call her Josie. Friday night the 7th of March Josie came home from school with a lot of pain in her spine as usual; so I went ahead and taped banana peals on her spine. To my astonishment it worked. In less than 15 minuets all her pain had left her spine for the first time in over a year she went to bed with no pain in her spine and woke up Saturday with no pain. I was amazingly surprised and shocked but overwhelmed with joy. Once again I thank you and Josie thanks you. My own Banana Peel Experience:

"A very sharp knife up under my skull, just above my right eye"

That's exactly how it felt to me in the middle of the night.  I had stopped to stay with my 90 year old mother on my way to Idaho with a full schedule of patients to see the next day.  When I went to bed I had just a hint of a headache.  Then, in the middle of the night, I woke up with the sharpest headache I have ever experienced.  It felt like someone had driven a very sharp knife up under my skull, just above my right eye.

What could I do?  There would be no more sleep that night.  Then I remembered some bananas on the kitchen counter.  I got one and laid the inside of the peel over my eyebrow and eyelid.  IMMEDIATELY, the second the peel touched my eyelid, the pain was totally gone!  I thought, I can't believe this. I took the banana peel off and as quickly as the pain stopped, the sharp knife shot back up under my skull again, almost making me scream. 

This is impossible, I thought. It couldn't happen that fast. More tips for stopping headaches without drugs:

Dehydration is a major cause of headaches because dehydration pulls water from the brain.  This causes the electrical signal's in the head to fail which may be the cause of the pain.  Drinking more water, with the chlorine removed by evaporation or through a carbon filter, could stop most of your headaches.  (Distilled or reverse osmosis water may not work because too many of the minerals have been removed to conduct an electrical signal.)

I was discussing the above phenomenon with Dr. Verl McBride, Ph.D. who has spent a lifetime successfully helping children and adults with learning disabilities by synchronizing the hemispheres of the brain using patterning exercises. 

Dr. McBride suggested another way to stop headaches: Put a patch over one eye. After several minutes if it doesn't work, try the other eye.  Putting a patch over one eye, visually eliminates the disharmony of the hemispheres of the brain which may be causing the headache.  There are also several exercises that do this.  One is crawling on your hands and knees without turning the head with the eyes following the hands.

Another way to stop headaches is by taping "Biotape" across the forehead. (See "Pain Healed Immediately" at: http://www.healpain.net.) Biotape cannot be used over again many times like the silver Headache Bands, but it is effective for the same reason - it connects the "Blocked Chi" (broken electrical signals between cells) in the forehead that the Chinese believe is the cause of pain.

Well, let me just start off by saying, "Thank You!"  My name is Michele, and I am a 31 year old Physical Therapist.  I have been gravitating towards Holistic Healing, Oriental Medicine, and energy work over the last few years and further and further away from the medical model and pharmaceuticals.  I have never been one to take medications for myself, however I have always had headaches since as long as I can remember, say 6 years old or so, and when it got bad enough, I would take an "Excedrin for Migraine" or just 2 Tylenol.  I never agreed to take prescription drugs, because I just don't like them.  And since about the age of 18 or so, I've been getting occasional migraines, though this past year has been the greatest frequency (4 times in 1 year). 

 

 In desperation a few years ago I took 3 Excedrins because I just could not stand the pain and the vomiting.  Not only did it not take away the pain, but I ended up with hives for days from the medications themselves.  The Dermatologist and Allergist both agreed I just needed a higher dose of antihistamines to get rid of the nickel sized hives all over my extremities...but as a result, I developed a hypersensitivity to that medication as well as antihistamines.  Now I cannot even take any type of antihistamine or Excedrin or even Advil without reacting. 

 

I am forced to go natural!!!  Yeah, funny how the body works for your best interest sometimes!  I am on a whole new path in life now because of this so called tragedy!   Maybe I'll find a safe cure...drugless...all natural cure to headaches, migraines, and allergies!!!  Things that make you go HMMMMM!  Well, so far Acupuncture shows the most hope! 

 

I remember way back as a kid my parents taking me to the pediatrician for answers...he thought it was my nose/sinus.  Then they took me to the eye doctor, and...he thought it was my eyes...years later I saw a chiropractor...he thought it was all coming from my neck...my friend thinks it's from being on the birth control pill.  The Acupuncturist/ DOM I just began seeing thinks it is dehydration and blood deficiency.
