Treating
Pain
With
Bioelectric and Auricular Therapy
By Darrell J. Stoddard Copyright 1996
Severe chronic pain and other diseases can be helped and
even cured (? See footnote*), often with just one treatment
by treating the cause
(without drugs, acupuncture, manipulation, massage, injections,
or surgery).
Note: This is the background
and history that led to the discovery of "Biotape."
This essay presents what may be a breakthrough
in the treatment of pain and other diseases. The paper will define what
pain is, explain how the body heals pain, describe a new procedure for treating
pain, and then verify the method with case studies from more than 13,000
treatments.
Doctors have been trying for more than
200 years to find out what causes pain without ever learning what pain
is. If we don't know what pain is, all we can do is suppress symptoms and
hope the body heals itself.
We give medications, that only mask
the pain, suppress vital functions, or cause gastrointestinal bleeding.
If we can't find anything wrong, we imply that the pain is in the patient's
head or tell them they will have to learn to live with the pain. Others
are sent to surgery or endless therapy that cost astronomical sums. After
all this, the patient may be in worse pain than before we started.
Everyone knows that injury causes pain
but what is the cause of pain when there has been no injury? Pain may continue
long after an injury takes place. Why does it still hurt? What exactly
is pain? How does the body heal pain? (Knowing that every cell is a tiny
chemical/electric generator connected electrically to other cells, is necessary
to answer these questions.)
We are aware of the sensation of touch
because cells are pushed closer together. This decreases the electrical
resistance between cells. Decreasing the electrical resistance increases
the flow of electricity to the brain. The increased flow of electricity
is what tells us we have been touched.
When something hits us, it sends a
quick burst of electricity to the brain. If pain continues after the blow,
it is because tissue has been damaged and electrical connections between
cells have been broken. The brain senses the injury because of a signal from
the damaged tissue to the brain. The pain signal, however, is not the pain!
What the pain is, is broken or suppressed electrical signals between cells
in the injured tissue.
What about pain that is not caused
by an injury? Degenerative diseases, dehydration, inflammation, infection,
ulcers, tumors, lack of minerals spontaneous fractures, allergies, etc. may
also cause the electrical circuits to fail, even when there has been no injury.
Whether it is the breaking of the electrical circuits from an injury or
the failure of electrical signals for other reasons, the signal to the brain
is the same. Both are interpreted as pain.
The failure of electrical connections
between cells ("blockage of chi") is not only the cause of pain but all
degenerative diseases according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. The theory
is not so incredulous when we know that the brain works electrically and
that we are "brain dead" when there is no more electricity going across our
brain. All cells will die or become degenerate if electrical signals are
broken or suppressed.
If pain is the breaking, suppression,
or failure of the body's electrical circuits, how does the body heal pain?
Pain is healed when the body reconnects the broken circuits. When we hit
our thumb with a hammer, it hurts because electrical connections between
the cells have been broken. It stops hurting when the body reconnects the
broken circuits. This is the way the body heals pain and the only way we
can heal pain -- by finding and by reconnecting the broken circuits that
cause the pain.
Suppressing the pain signal with drugs
is treating the symptom not the cause. The medication only masks the pain
and does nothing for the broken circuits that cause the pain.
How do you find and reconnect broken
circuits? An instrument that measures electrical resistance can non invasively
detect where the circuits have failed. If the instrument also stimulates
with the correct wave form, current and frequency, it is possible to reconnect
the broken circuits. I have named this more discriminating method of electrical
stimulation "Bioelectric Therapy" to distinguish it from "TENS"
(transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation).
Everything I have said can be measured,
quantified, and proven with simple electronic instruments on real patients.
When there is pain, the part of the body that hurts always has more electrical
resistance. This means the electrical signals between cells are suppressed.
If you can restore the flow of electricity through the painful area, the
pain will go away - often immediately. And if you can keep the circuits
turned on, the pain will not return.
How do you maintain the flow of electricity
("chi" or "life force") so the pain does not return? Acupuncture can reconnect
broken circuits. To keep the circuits turned on, Chinese Medicine provides
another answer.
Auricular Therapy is done by
finding and stimulating acupuncture points in the ear electrically, then
by taping tiny seeds on combinations of the 136 points that have been identified
in each ear. The constant 24 hours a day pressure from the seeds, stimulates
corresponding centers in the brain to keep the broken circuits turned on.
Healing is thereby achieved - in the same way the body heals pain.
Spectacular claims require spectacular
evidence. Below are case studies to show how well the treatments work:
Mike W.: Back pain from injury
and surgery that resisted every treatment and drug - so severe that more
than once, Mike went to his gun closet to end his pain. Had his finger on
the trigger then "couldn't go through with it" because of his family. One
treatment stopped all pain until Mike reinsured his back. One more treatment
relieved pain again.
Arthur T.: Diabetic Peripheral
Neuropathy and painful gangrenous ulcer on big toe that would not heal.
A surgeon wanted to amputate foot to save leg. After first treatment patient
slept all night with no pain. Three treatments, plus infrared laser light
treatment, totally healed ulcer and 100% of the pain.
Wilma H.: Pain in lower back
and down both legs for 30 years. Was losing use of legs. Pain from arthritis,
spurs, fusion of discs, and curvature of the spine so severe her husband
had to help her turn over in bed. Started with a brace as the problem advanced,
then doctors told her nothing could be done and that she would just have
to learn to live with the pain. 100% relief at first. Still 90% better eight
weeks later after one treatment.
Steven A.: Severe migraine headaches
on both sides nonstop for two years. Five neurologists did not help. Received
98% relief first treatment. Headaches totally gone a year later.
Retta B.: Whiplash injury with
cervical nerve root damage causing intense unrelenting pain that did not
respond to medication. Patient went to physical therapy 3-5 times a week
for over three years. This only made the pain manageable. One treatment relieved
100% of the pain with full range of motion restored. Four months later,
patient has full range of motion and is pain free with no more treatments.
Virginia G.: Lower back and
hip pain. "95% relief after 17 years! "Giggled all week." One treatment.
Julia J.: Degenerative disc
disease causing severe pain that did not respond to any other treatment.
Surgery was considered the only option and was scheduled but had to be postponed.
One treatment stopped all of her pain. Surgery was canceled, and Julia
is still pain free more than a year later with no more treatments.
Una H.: Lumbar vertebrae surgically
fused. Pain after surgery was even more intense than before. Therapy at
spine center three times a week for six months "didn't help." Therapy at
another spine clinic three times a week for three more months "made pain
even worse." One treatment relieved 80% of Una's pain and 75% of her depression.
Kristie W.: TMJ, Stiff Neck,
Headaches, Painful swollen jaw for ten years. "100% relief within five
minutes." Still 100% better two years later with only one treatment.
Glen S.: Wrists broken that
hurt nearly all the time for ten years leading to muscle failure and one
year off work as drywall finisher. No relief from physical therapy. Ninety
to 100% relief with one treatment and back to drywall work for three years.
Marie N. & Marie W.: Shingles.
100% relief for both patients with one treatment. (It usually takes three.)
Dina S.: Fatigue and Depression.
Unable to do load of wash and fold in one day. Did eight loads the day
after treatment. "Feeling of impending doom is gone" after one treatment
Carol H.: Depression. One treatment.
"Not 100% better but almost".
Leslie J.: Fibromyalgia for
nine years. 90% relief with two treatments.
Heber P.: Ninety-two year old
with spondylitis, bent over parallel to the ground. One treatment and he
could stand up straight without pain. Feeling in his feet has even returned.
Cleo A.: Glaucoma. Pressure
measured 27 in one eye and 31 in the other, even after ophthalmology treatments.
One treatment and pressure in eyes measured 15 and 16. Vision has remained
normal for more than six months.
Kay W.: Severe incontinence
with exercise or stepping down. Tried pelvic exercises. Doctor recommended
surgery. Totally dry for six months after one treatment, then for more than
two years after 2nd treatment.
Yvonne N.: Wanted another child
but couldn't conceive. Ob-Gyn, infertility, M.D. ran tests on her but could
find nothing wrong; so her husband was tested and found to have a very
low sperm count. One seed was taped in husbands' ear. Patient conceived
the first month then lost the baby. Yvonne conceived again within a month
when seed was replaced and nine months later bore a healthy baby boy. Eighteen
months after the birth of the baby boy she had a baby girl.
Arian G.: Hand Tremors ended
career of violinist. Neurologist tried for two years with every drug known
for tremors. Nothing helped so she went to acupuncturist six times a week
for three months. Acupuncture helped but gave only temporary relief. First
treatment reduced tremors 95% and "did more good than all of the above."
Artis P.: Chemotherapy and radiation
left her mouth as dry as sandpaper for six years. Within an hour of one
treatment, saliva was running out both corners of her mouth.
Joy C.: Three slipped disks.
Neurosurgeon said without surgery, she would be paralyzed and in a wheelchair.
Two treatments and patient has been pain free for eight years.
Jolene N.: Neck pain from injury
for 15 years. Told she would just have to learn to live with the pain.
One treatment and Jolene has not had any pain in more than two years.
Marilyn A.: Trigeminal neuralgia
or "Tic Douloureux" (possibly the most intense pain known). As many as
four excruciating pain attacks an hour if she moved, for fourteen years.
One treatment gave 70% relief.
Janeen C.: Migraine headaches,
that no medication would touch, every week for 20 years. Had one more migraine
a week after one treatment, then not one migraine for two years!
Orvil E. "Suicide" migraine
cluster headaches - "Two or three every month for fifty years." Even the
Mayo Clinic couldn't help. One treatment stopped his migraine headaches for
more than two years. Treatments are not always this effective, but it works
so well that most patients get significant relief with the first treatment.
Diseases successfully treated include:
adrenal insufficiency, amenorrhoea, arrhythmia, arthritis, asthma, astigmatism,
Bells palsy, bone spurs, bursitis, cancer pain, carpal tunnel, chronic
fatigue, depression, diabetes, dry mouth, endometriosis, enuresis, eye
pain, excessive sweating, fibromyalgia, Guillain-Barre syndrome, glaucoma,
headaches (migraine, sinus, tension), herniated disks, heartburn, hiatal
hernia, hypertension, hypothyroidism, incontinence, infertility, impotence,
low sperm count, lupus, menstrual cramps, morning sickness, neuralgia,
neuritis, neuromas, neuropathy, paralysis, parkinsonism, post surgical
pain and/or loss of function, plantar fascitis, reflex sympathetic dystrophy,
rheumatism, sciatica, scoliosis, seizures, shingles, spastic colon, spondylitis,
to stop smoking, tachycardia, tendinitis, tinnitus, TMJ, toothache, torn
rotor cuff, tremors, trigeminal neuralgia, vertigo, vulvar pain, whiplash,
for weight control, etc. Gall bladders have been emptied and programmed to
work properly instead of cutting them out, and toes have been straightened,
eliminating bunions without surgery.
You may know about acupuncture anesthesia
where major operations are done with no anesthesia and no pain. This is
accomplished because the acupuncture needles send a signal to the brain
to keep the brain from knowing the circuits have been cut.
Anesthesia cannot be achieved with
auricular therapy, but for chronic conditions auricular therapy is better
than acupuncture because pressure from the seeds with one treatment continues
24 hours a day for up to a month. This is better than receiving acupuncture
with needles every day.

Note: In the United States, no one can legally make the claim that any
medication, product, or treatment "cures pain." The most that can be said
for any product is that the product is for the symptomatic relief of minor aches
and pains. This incomprehensible situation exists because Western
medicine has never adequately or accurately defined the physiology
of pain. If no one knows what pain is, then no one can claim to "heal pain."
If I treat
a patient who is in so much pain that she can't get up off the floor; if
she has been told by a neurosurgeon that without decompression back surgery,
she will be paralyzed or spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair, and
15 years later she is still pain free without the surgery and after having
had only one treatment, I think maybe she was healed (whether I did it or whether nature did it, SHE WAS STILL HEALED)! To
make such a claim, however, I risk a lawsuit and risk going to prison for
making "unsubstantiated medical claims." Everything above is therefor just
theoretical or anecdotal with no claims whatsoever for a cure of any kind.
